PROVIDENCE, R.I. — No. 11-ranked Harvard University defeated No. 7 University of California-Davis, 15-14, but fell to No. 8 Pepperdine University, 9-6, on the first day of the 2018 Brown University Bruno Classic at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatic Center.
In the first game, the Crimson topped the Aggies from UC-Davis in nail-biting fashion. The game opened with a goal from senior Nathan Ondracek assisted by Austin Sechrest on a six-on-five. Sechrest capitalized on Ondarcek’s success, scoring the next two goals for the Crimson. In his career debut, freshman Alex Tsotadze added two goals.
The Crimson continued a back-and-forth rally with the Aggies leading up to a speedy backhand goal from Ondracek off a drive. Junior Charlie Owens netted the ball out of two-meter putting the Crimson in the lead to the end.
In what began as a slow start, the Crimson fell to Pepperdine 9-6 for the second game of the Bruno Classic. Senior Nick Bunn opened up play with a goal off a six-on-five drawn by Tsotadze. With three of the six goals scored throughout the game, Dennis Blyashov opened up his scoring drive by netting a five-meter penalty shot.
Freshman Noah Hodge began his career with multiple blocks including a standout stop from two-meters maintaining an even score. However, the Crimson ran out of energy in the fourth quarter allowing Pepperdine to take the lead.
