FORMER YALE/CAL-IRVINE STANDOUT GIANNA FOTE WINS 2018 NAUTICA MALIBU TRIATHLON



BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — 2014 Yale University graduate and current University of California-Irvine graduate student Gianna Fote put her intercollegiate water polo playing experience to good use by finishing the 2018 Nautica Malibu Triathlon in a on Saturday, September 15, in a time of 1:41.39 to place 77th overall and first in the 25-29 female age group.
Fote completed the classic course by swimming a half mile (12:30), biking 17 miles (54:32) and running four miles (30:33) over the classic distance course to hit the finish in under two hours and place 1st in the women’s 25-29 bracket. 
A six-time Women’s Collegiate Club All-Conference selection and four-time All-America pick, she was twice named a New England Division First Team selection (2011, 2012) prior to garnering All-North Atlantic First Team and Most Valuable Player honors in both 2013 and 2014 at Yale. In addition, she earned All-America honors in 2012 (Honorable Mention), 2013 (Third Team) and 2014 (Third Team).
Following her graduation from Yale in 2014, she advanced to the UC-Irvine where she earned 2015 (Second Team) and 2017 (First Team) All-Southwest Division accolades to accompany 2017 All-America Honorable Mention recognition.
A 2014 graduate of Yale with a Bachelor of Science in Intensive Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology, she matriculated to the UC-Irvine Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) where she studies the role of autophagy in neurodegenerative disease pathogenesis.
