2018 European Masters Championships - Results

As you already know, between August 26 and August 31, 2018 in Kranj, the 9th European Masters Championship in Water Polo, and later in other water sports  took place. The event was set up in a covered Olympic pool, where there were two playgrounds and an outdoor swimming pool with one playing field. The competition was attended by 66 teams from 17 different countries under the auspices of LEN in as many of 12 different age categories, both men and women. Of all the 66 teams, at least 35 teams delegated their referee, neutral ones were delegated by a home-based referee association.

The delegates nominated from LEN:
Mr. Simon Rothwell (GBR)
Mr. Łukasz Jarochowski (POL)
Mr. Jan Novotny (CZE)
Mr. Marijo Brguljan (MNE)
Mr. Simion Mihai Angelo (ROM)

The winners of the different age groups were as follows:

M30+: VAC Senso Media (HUN)
M35+: Jadran Veterani (MNE)
M40+: Oazis (HUN)
M45+: YBL Octopus (HUN)
M50+: Happy Hippos Budapest (HUN)
M55+: Dynamo Masters Moscow (RUS)
M60+: HZC de Robben Hilversum (NED)
M65+: Dusseldorfer SC1898 (GER)
M70+: SV Cannstatt (GER)
W30+ BSC Kling (HUN)
W35+: English Roses (GBR)
W40+: Stepp Praha (CZE)

Some statistic facts:
-          167 matches were played in 6 days (between 09:00 AM and 18:00 PM)
-          Altogether, 1749 goals were scored, which is an average of 10.47 goals per game
-          For the first time, Microplus (ITA) took care of all the results in real time.

Waterpolo experts say that this has been the best organized tournament ever so far, and that's why congratulations to all those who were in one way or another present in carrying out this big event.

The European Masters Championship was also a great opportunity for Slovenian referees, as during the 6 days of the competition we hosted quite a few strong matches (stronger than in the national championship) and gained valuable experience for the future trial. The "International level" also contributed to the acquisition of valuable experiences, which will be even more welcome in the upcoming season in the trial of the Regional Waterpolo League.

By absorbing media coverage, it would be wise to consider organizing the appearance of tournaments with international participation (like Habawaba, Tristar, FINA masters, ...), in order to return the Slovenian water polo to the place it belongs to.
