Freitas-Clemente
SALEM, W.Va. -– Freshman Danny Meisel (Santa Cruz, Calif.) turned away 14 shots and six different players found the back of the net as the Connecticut College men’s water polo team triumphed by a 10-8 score in a Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC)-West Region match against McKendree University at Salem University.
The Camels utilized a balanced scoring attack right from the start, as four players each netted a goal to give the team a 4-0 advantage. McKendree attempted to rally and tied the game up twice at 4-4 and 7-7, but in each instance, Connecticut College was able to respond and never surrendered the lead at any point. Junior Arturo Freitas (Weston, Fla.) scored the eventual game-winning marker with 3:05 remaining, and the Camels held on for a two-goal win.
Freshman Mike Gertsik (Brooklyn, N.Y.) paced the offense by registering a hat trick, which included scoring the go-ahead goal to break a 7-7 deadlock in the second half.
