Tournament Set for September 28-29
With 64 teams coming to the area from five states, it's easy to see how the Beast of the East water polo tournament got its name.
The tournament is the largest scholastic water polo tournament in the country outside of California. It will be held Friday and Saturday at multiple sites, including four in Berks County.
Gov. Mifflin, Muhlenberg, Reading High and Wilson will host matches. Other sites on Friday will be Cumberland Valley, Haverford, North Penn, Pennridge and Souderton.
Matches begin at 3 p.m. at Wilson and 3:30 at the other Berks sites.
In addition to the host schools, Exeter will also be competing in the tournament.
Following Friday's action, teams will be placed into flights. Wilson will host Flight 1, beginning at 7:30 a.m.; Mifflin hosts Flight 2 (8:15 a.m.); Reading Flight 4 (8 a.m.); and Muhlenberg Flight 5 (noon). Flight 3 matches will be at Central York, starting at 7:30 a.m.
The girls Flight 1 championship is scheduled for 8:15 p.m., with the boys slated for 9:15.
