STA's Goldenberg Scores Two For UCLA


Bruins Improve to 5-0 on the Year




 No. 1 UCLA improved to 5-0 on the year with a 15-3 win over St. Francis Brooklyn (0-7) in the Bruins' second of five games at the Princeton Invitational on Saturday morning at Denunzio Pool.

The Bruins were led by six players that scored two goals apiece. Those scorers included sophomore Quinten Osborne, freshman Ashworth Molthen, redshirt juniors Eric Goldenberg and Raphael Raede, and seniors Kent Inoue and Austin Rone. Redshirt junior Alex Wolf started in goal playing the entire first half while registering six saves and allowing just one goal. Freshman Danny Roland played the entire second half making five stops while surrendering just two goals (both on penalty shots in the fourth period).

The Bruins won a defensive-minded first quarter, 2-1. Djorde Stanic got the Terriers on the board first with a goal from the front court (7:19). Osborne tied the game at 1-1 with a goal from set (5:02). Sophomore Nicolas Saveljic broke a 1-1 tie with a strike from the front court with just three seconds left in the period.

UCLA pitched a shutout in the second quarter to take a 5-1 lead into the break. The Bruins received three front court goals from sophomore Luke Henriksson (7:37), Inoue (4:03) and sophomore Chasen Travisano (1:14).

Another scoreless shutout followed by the Bruin defense in the third while the offense put four on the board to push the lead to 9-1. Osborne got things started with his second of the game from two meters (5:00) and then Rone scored his first from the front court (2:57). Molthen ended the scoring in the third quarter with back-to-back goals from the front court (1:17 and 0:26).

UCLA put six goals on the board in the final period while allowing the Terriers the two penalty goals. William Lapkin scored the first penalty goal for St. Francis Brooklyn (6:57) to cut the lead to 9-2. Goldenberg scored his first of the game on a power play (6:01) but Lapkin answered with another penalty conversion (5:20) to make it 10-3. From there, it was all Bruins as Raede scored his first from two meters (4:58) followed by Rone's second goal from the front court (3:28) to make it 12-3. Raede then notched his second of the game from set (2:39) and Goldenberg netted his second from the front court (1:53) to extend the lead to 14-3. Inoue scored his second of the contest on a power play (1:09) to provide the 15-3 final.
