Ransom Alum Simko Scores Two In Brown Victory




PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman Andrew Penner (Atherton, Calif.) scored a game-high four goals as the No. 18-ranked Brown University men’s water polo team beat Connecticut College, 16-2, at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.
The Bears led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter and 11-2 at halftime on their way to the win over the visiting Camels.
Alongside Penner, freshman Gabe Kaplan (Santa Monica, Calif.) tallied two goals and three assists. Junior Will Collier(Darien, Conn.) and freshman Matt Simko (Coral Gables, Fla.) each posted two goals and an assist.
Junior Hudson Rawlings (Murrieta, Calif.) and sophomore Daniel Hu (Colleyville, Texas) compiled a goal and two assists apiece while sophomores Aidan Reilly (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Adam Fuller (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and freshman Stephen Salle (Chadds Ford, Pa.) each registered a goal and an assist. Junior Galen Hu (Colleyville, Texas) netted one goal.
Sophomore Riad Hallal (Coronado, Calif.) and freshman Ugo Piovan (Vouliagmeni, Greece) each played two quarters in the cage, making nine saves apiece. Hallal added one assist.
The Bears opened the game with a 7-0 at the end of the first quarter. Simko netted two goals in the period while Rawlings, Collier, Reilly, Salle and Penner each scored once.
Daniel Hu extended Brown’s edge to 8-0 early in the second quarter before the Camels posted back-to-back markers to pull within 8-2 with 3:09 to play in the half. Goals from Collier, Penner and Kaplan closed the stanza, providing the Bears with an 11-2 advantage at halftime.
Brown scored all five goals in the second half to finish out the game. In the third quarter, Penner scored twice, Fuller converted a 5-meter penalty, and Galen Hu concluded the quarter’s scoring. Kaplan netted the fourth quarter’s only goal, connecting on a shot from beyond five-meters.
