No. 1 UCLA Whips Whittier 20-5



Goldenberg Scores In Bruin Romp




LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- No. 1 UCLA improved to 2-0 on the season with a 20-5 win over Whittier (0-1) in the third game of the UCLA Invitational on Saturday morning at Dirks Pool at Spieker Aquatics Center.

Sophomore Quinten Osborne led 14 different Bruins in scoring with a career-high four goals while freshman Danny Roland got his first collegiate start in the cage for the Bruins and had four saves in the first half while allowing five goals. Redshirt junior Jonathan Van De Velde came on in relief and pitched a shutout in the second half while registering four saves.

The Bruins held a 7-4 lead at the end of a high-scoring first quarter. UCLA jumped out to a 3-0 lead with goals from sophomore Chasen Travisano(7:24), Osborne (6:41) and freshman Ashworth Molthen (5:17). Then each team traded goals for the rest of the period. UCLA received goals from sophomore Nicolas Saveljic (4:37), senior Austin Rone (3:50) and back-to-back goals from senior Warren Snyder (1:21 and 0:27).

UCLA built a 12-5 lead by halftime. Osborne (6:00) scored his second of the game as did Rone (5:42). Sophomore Felix Brozyna-Vilim (5:14) netted his first of the game with a nifty shot on a rebound. Sophomore Evan Rosenfeld (3:28 and 1:01) scored back-to-back goals to end the scoring in the first half.

The Bruins pitched a shutout in the third, outscoring the Poets, 5-0, to take a 17-5 lead into the fourth. Osborne (7:42 and 6:47) scored back-to-back goals at set to open the scoring in the third period. Redshirt sophomore Peter Lovas scored from the front court (3:17) and sophomore Luke Henriksson (2:02) scored on a power play to make it 16-5. Redshirt junior Eric Goldenberg (0:50) ended the scoring with a blistering shot nearside post.

UCLA also pitched a shutout in the fourth quarter, outscoring Whittier 3-0. Molthen scored a power play goal (7:19) to make it 18-5. Then freshman Bailey Jarvis scored his first of the game on a counter (5:56) and senior Kent Inoue scored on another counter (4:53) to provide the 20-5 final.
