Gary Troyer Tournament
Pomona-Pitzer and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps are the hosts of the 2018 Gary Troyer Tournament. The tournament features 22 programs from across the country to compete in a total of 40 games over two days, Oct. 5-6.

In the fall of 1970, Professor of Physical Education Gary Troyer started at Pomona College as the water polo and swimming coach. A quintessential NCAA Division III coach, he won SCIAC titles in men's water polo (1981) and women's swimming (1977, 1978). Leading athletic teams with a precise understanding of the academic and athletic balance required at a highly rigorous institution, Troyer mentored countless All-Conference swimmers and water polo players, as well as numerous school-record holders and All-Americans. While at Pomona College, Troyer taught SCUBA, Sailing, and Windsurfing, along with all of the Red Cross classes in First Aid, CPR, Life Saving and Water Safety.

Troyer retired from coaching water polo in 2001 but continued to coach swimming and diving for three more years. Troyer then fully retired from Pomona in 2004, and was inducted into the Pomona-Pitzer Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005 for Distinguished Service. In 2007, Troyer was awarded the SCIAC Distinguished Service Award. Troyer passed away on December 10, 2011.

Salinas Earns Pair of Weekly Accolades
Freshman Isaac Salinas (Spring City, Pa.) was named Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Rookie of the Week, while also earning Naval Academy Athletics Association (NAAA) Athlete of the Week, presented by Northrup Grumman for his efforts in the pool over the weekend. Salinas helped lead Navy to a 2-1 record on the weekend, scoring a team-high 15 points on a team-best 12 goals, and team-high three assists. The freshman tied the Navy school record with nine goals in a game, originally set by Brian Wineke against Slippery Rock back in 1993.

Last Time Out
Navy split a day-night doubleheader with Johns Hopkins and No. 15 Bucknell. The Mids used a record-tying nine-goal performance by freshman Isaac Salinas (Spring City, Pa.) to top the Blue Jays, 15-11. In the nightcap, the Midshipmen were unable to overcome the offensive firepower for the nationally-ranked Bison, dropping a 12-8 decision.

Salinas paced the offense on the day, tallying 11 goals. The true freshman tied the Navy school record with nine goals, originally set by Brian Wineke against Slippery rock back in 1993. Bobby Lee (Santa Ana, Calif.) and Jack Weggeland(Riverside, Calif.) finished the day with multiple goals. The duo each scored a pair of goals against Bucknell, while Lee also chipped in a score against Johns Hopkins.
