CONNECTICUT COLLEGE & CARTHAGE COLLEGE TO HOST 2019 & 2010 WOMEN’S COLLEGIATE WATER POLO ASSOCIATION DIVISION III CHAMPIONSHIPS

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Assistant Commissioner Tom Tracey released the sites of the 2019 and 2020 Women’s Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championships with Connecticut College in New London, Conn., and Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisc., earning the duty and honors.
Comprised of previous members Carthage, Connecticut, Grove City CollegeMacalester CollegeMonmouth CollegePenn State-BehrendUtica College and Washington & Jefferson College, the group expands to 10 teams for the 2019 season as Wittenberg University and Austin College join the league for their first seasons of varsity water polo.
In 2019, Connecticut College’s Jane Cadwell Lott ’36 Natatorium will host the championship for the third time after previously serving as the site of the 2013 and 2016 championship events.  The Camels were not originally slated to host the 2016 event but were selected based on geography following Utica’s decision to decline hosting.
In the history of the championship, Utica (2010), Macalester (2011, 2014, 2017), Grove City (2012, 2015) and Connecticut (2013, 2016) previously hosted the event, with Grove City capturing the inaugural three championship crowns (2010, 2011, 2012) prior to Connecticut notching four straight (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016) and Macalester taking the last two prizes (2017, 2018).
Carthage will join the ranks of Utica, Macalester, Grove City and Connecticut in hosting the championship in 2020 as the Lady Reds will welcome their league competition to the Koenitzer Aquatic Center.
Beyond 2020, the championship site rotation is open due to the realignment of the teams into two regions with the inclusion of Austin and Wittenberg.  As teams now play a double round-robin within their region with a crossover championship starting this year (2019), the rotation for the championship sites is still under consideration by the membership.
