Jug Dubrovnik suffered the first loss in the Regional League after 27 wins in a row. The title-holder was defeated by Mladost Zagreb at the home pool in the most important match of Day 2.
It was a very thrilling game, the spectators saw a big battle. Mladost took an early 2:0 lead. From the middle of the 1st quarter, Jug took control. The hosts equalized by the first break (2:2). They led throughout the 2nd and the 3rd period, but Jug’s advantage was never larger than 2 goals. A minute from the end of the 3rd period, the hosts led 7:5. But, everything was turned around in the last nine minutes. Jug has a minimal lead (7:6) after the 3rd quarter. Mladost ruled the field in the last period. The visitors extended their series of unanswered goals for an important 9:7 win.
The 2nd round offered a few very interesting clashes.
Partizan, the champion of Serbia, suffered the 2nd defeat this season. Partizan was hosted by Sabac, the 3rd-placed team in the last season’s Serbian league. The home side started like a storm. Sabac led 4:0 early in the 1st period. The hosts were 8:4 up deep into the 2nd quarter. Partizan, which came to Sabac without a few main players, managed to climb back. The seven-time European champion equalized in the middle of the last period (10:10).Sabac answered with two goals in two consecutive attacks for a 12:10 win. By the way, eight Sabac’s players have played for Partizan. Among them is an experienced goalkeeper Gojko Pijetlovic, who is the only member of the Serbian national team who plays in the Serbian League.
Jadran Herceg Novi visited Belgrade to face Red Star (Crvena Zvezda). The champion of Montenegro posted a 9:6 victory. The visitors secured all three points early in the 4th quarter, as they were 9:3 up with 5:53 remaining on the clock. In the following minutes, the home side scored three goals and reduced the gap.
