Grady Nets One




NO. 20 WAGNER COLLEGE BESTED BY CAL BAPTIST & HOST SANTA CLARA @FRASER MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT


SANTA CLARA/SARATOGA, Calif. — The No. 20-ranked Wagner College men’s water polo team dropped matches to host Santa Clara University, 13-10, and No. 15 California Baptist University, 16-9, at Santa Clara’s Sullivan Aquatic Center and West Valley College, respectively, on the second day of the 2018 Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament.
Facing the host Broncos, the teams were tied at three-all at the end of the first stanza, as junior driver Matthew Miller, senior driver Teo Dadic and senior utility Devin O’Donnell each tallied one goal apiece.
Back and forth offensive play between the two teams left the score dead even at five-all, as junior utility Lachlan Trabinger and junior driver Oscar Nomura found the back of the net once, respectively.
Sophomore lefty Jack Leighton opened the third quarter with a Seahawks’ score, followed by one apiece from freshman utility Vuk Bulajic, Kolasinac, and Trabinger. The score was knotted at nine-all entering into the final quarter of play.
Kolasinac found the back of the net once more to begin the last eight minutes, followed by three more Broncos’ goals before the time ran out with a final score of 13-10 in favor of Santa Clara.
Taking on Cal Baptist in a clash of Top 20 programs, the Green & White trailed the Lancers for the entirety of the game. At the end of the first quarter, Cal Baptist led by one at the end of the first period, with a score of 5-4.
The Lancers continued leading Wagner at the end of the first half with a score of 8-6. Despite three goals from the Seahawks in the third stanza, the Lancers were ahead by a count of 12-9.
In the fourth and final quarter, the Green & White were held scoreless, as Cal Baptist added four more insurance goals to secure the victory with a final score of 16-9.
Miller led with a hat trick for the Seahawks, followed by two tallies from O’Donnell. Trabinger, Nomura, sophomore driver Jordi Alonso and senior driver Cole Grady (Boca raton High, Boca Raton, Fl.) each found the back of the net once, respectively.
Senior goalie Cameron Woldt blocked 10 shots in the loss.
