(for a $40 fee)

Lets get back to that fee...
Considering that USAWP requirements include that your child must play in one of the national tournaments and that applications do not reflect the entire pool of qualified student-athletes, the list is not exactly accurate. Add-in the $40 fee and the list becomes a "pay-to-play" honor which makes it even less accurate and just doesn't pass the smell test.
Tons of top students out there...who play water polo but may not be able to attend a national tournament and/or afford to pay the fee.
Collegiate academic all-america lists don't require that the student-athlete play in a bowl game or March Madness, etc. Instead, they must be varsity athlete that either starts or plays at 50% of the time. And the list is limited to 1st/2nd/HM teams. To apply it to water polo, 3 teams at 6 field players and 1 GK. In other words, it is not an all-comers list (after meeting minimum GPA), championship play is not required and the family doesn't have to pay to get their child in for consideration.
This is USAWP at its worst. Nickel, dime, nickel, dime....ad nauseum.
Over 1,000 athletes were selected this year with a fee that's non-refundable if you're not...1,061 X $40 = $42,440.
