Eger, OSC, and Szolnok open the season in style




Finally, the best national water polo championship in the world started. The top Hungarian clubs played most of the Round one matches on Wednesday as favorites like Eger and Szolnok opened the season with comfortable wins.
Former European champion Szolnok went to Budapest and beat UVSE – 13:7. In the first quarter, UVSE played some good water polo and managed to score a first goal of the game thanks to Tamas Somogyi. David Jansik and Prlainovic gave the visitors a lead, but then Ferenc Korbacs equalized 26 seconds before the end of the period.
In the second quarter, minute by minute, Szolnok managed to regain full control of the game. Batori, Zalanki, and Prlainovic all found the net and the visiting team took a 6:3 lead at the halftime.
The home team continued to play bravely and cut the deficit to two goals (7:5) in the third quarter. But UVSE could not do much more in the last period. Jansik, Prlainovic, and Lazic all found the net and Szolnok secured a comfortable win.
In the same, B group of the championship, OSC secured an easy win in the Budapest derby against Vasas – 17:6. OSC is in a good momentum, they had a successful Euro Cup qualifying campaign last week and the maintained the rhythm.
Against Vasas they secured the win already in the first half and Balazs Erdelyi and Balazs Harai both finished the game with four goals.
Also, in this group, Miskolci beat Kaposvari at home – 14:9, with Ognjen Stojanovic scoring five, and Balint Lorincz four goals.
Eger water polo club played away at Szentes and won easily 16:7. Strahinja Rasovic played almost a perfect game as he scored seven goals, with no missed shots.
The visiting team started with a 3:1 lead after the first quarter, and by the end of the half, they doubled the lead (8:4). After that, it was just the matter of how big the goal difference is going to be at the end.
Honved had a tougher task in a match against Domino Avus, but in the end, they won 11:9. The visiting team had an advantage during most of the game, but halfway through the third quarter Domino Avus cut their lead to 8:6. However, goals from Marton Sivos and Zsolt Simon helped Honved to stay on winning course.
