Barceloneta water polo club started the defense of the championship title in Spain with a win in Round one of Liga Premaat. The Catalan water polo giants recorded an easy win in Canarias, against Tenefire – 16:4. And this result was really no surprise for anyone, but the biggest winner of the first day was Sant Andreu water polo club.
They played at home against the newcomers in the league, Concepcion and won with an amazing result – 26:0. Surely, the home team was considered a big favorite, but no one could have even dreamed about such a huge score.
In this, almost a perfect game for the home team, Oscar Asensio and Ricardo Garcia scored four goals each, with Mathieu Peisson and Nikolas Paul Garcia both netted a hattrick. It is already clear that Concepcion water polo club is going to have a big problem with even finding a net in this league.
But, on the other hand, playing top-level games will be a valuable experience for both players and the whole organization.
As for the game between Barceloneta and Tenerife, Chus Martin’s team won the first period 5:1, and at the halftime, it was 9:3. The duel was definitely over after Barceloneta took a 14:4 lead at the end of the third period.
Another team from the region of Catalonia, Barcelona had a relatively easy job away against Navarra in Pamplona. The Catalans won 16:5, thanks to a great display in the first half of the game.
In those 16 minutes, Barcelona scored eight goals and conceded none. Adria Delgado was the best scorer of the game with four goals, while Joel Esteller added a hattrick display.
The most exciting game of the Round one was a draw between Real Canoe and Sabadell – 12:12.
Only 22 seconds before the end of the match, Oscar Carillo scored a goal for Sabadell and gave the visitors a 12:11 advantage. But the game was not over yet, because Álvaro García found the net eight seconds before the final whistle to settle the score.
