Today I was thinking about one of Broward's biggest success stories, RJ Moore. If I remember correctly RJ got a late start in water polo maybe around 7th grade but like everything else he learned quickly. Initially developed by Istvan Csendes then Michael Goldenberg at the SFWPC he flourished through high school, club season, zone play, you name it and academically his game was strong too. I can remember when he was named Aquinas team captain as a sophomore during mid-season due to the previous captain skipping a tourney opting instead to attend the music festival Ultra-Fest. The end of that season he cemented his captain-ship for the next 2 years by putting on the greatest individual water polo performance I'd ever witnessed. At Districts, held at the old FLHS pool, STA was down 6 or 7 goals at the half to Cardinal Gibbons and it looked like their season was over. Then Moore took the team on his shoulders and ran absolutely hog-wild in the second half; 7 steals, 6 blocks 7 or 8 goals, he injected himself into every facet of the game, I've never seen anything like it before and still never have......doubt if ever I will. Naturally Aquinas went on the win the game and on to Regional's. By the time he had finished high school RJ was a 3 time First Team All Broward County selection, 3 time SoFlo Water Polo Blog First Team All Tri-County, 2 time Player of the Year and SoFlo WPB Tri-County Player of the Year. But the smartest move this kid ever made was when he accepted a scholarship to the small, east coast college of Bucknell. Bucknell is considered one the "Mini-Ivy's" due to it's strong academics; RJ in my estimation could have made the team at any school in the county. However by choosing Bucknell he became a starter as a freshman and started all four years, was chosen team captain his senior year leading his squad to the Mid-Atlantic Championship.
